Flame-Shaped Tungsten Carbide Burr, Die Grinder Bit 6 mm
The classic 6 mm flame: pointed nose, tapered radius flanks – the shape that follows a weld bead like a guided tool.
Design and Construction
A 6 mm flame-shape head ground from integral YG carbide: sharp nose for tight starts, tapered radius flanks for the bead line, and a necked waist that keeps the flank clear of the parent metal.
How It Works
Present the nose to the bead start, sweep along the taper – the flame self-follows the seam because contact pressure stays on the radius, not the point.
Applications
Weld seam dressing, pipe and tube work, curved-surface blending, general fabrication.
Field Cases
- Pipe shop: flame heads followed 2-inch seams in one pass per side.
- Fabrication: curved brackets dressed without flat spots a disc would leave.
- Maintenance: the waist cleared adjacent surfaces while the flank cut the seam.
Performance Data
| Metric | Value / Observation |
|---|---|
| Head | Flame, 6 mm class |
| Speed reference | About 40,000 RPM starting in steel |
| Geometry | Pointed nose + radius flanks + necked waist |
| Hardness | 1,300-1,500 HV |
Suitable Materials
Steel, stainless steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals.
Material Comparison: Flame vs Cylinder vs Ball on a Weld Bead
Head geometry against the same bead – typical industry guidance:
| Factor | Flame (this bit) | Cylinder | Ball |
|---|---|---|---|
| Following the bead | Nose + taper self-follows | Cuts a straight swath | Rounds the crown only |
| Parent-metal safety | Waist keeps flanks clear | Flats can dig | Safe but slow |
| Toe blending | Radius blends into parent | Sharp step left | Good blend |
| Speed feel | Guided, low effort | Needs steering | Needs multiple passes |
Delivery Scope
Burr in protective tube.
Why Choose VPOINT
The geometry that made flame the weld-dressing default.
Precision & Quality Control
Profile template-checked; nose centred per batch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why flame for welds?
The tapered radius self-follows the bead – the shape does the steering.
Pipe work?
Yes, one of its best applications.
Thin material?
Yes – light passes, no disc catch.
Speed?
About 40,000 RPM at 6 mm.
Other sizes?
Yes, the flame family spans the size range.
