Installation
How do I install or replace an insert knife?
Seat the insert flat against the holder face so that the cutting edge sits exactly on the design line, then tighten the screw in the order given in our fitting guide. Always stop the machine and disconnect the power before you touch a knife, and fit the guard and the extraction coverage back in place before the next run.
What should I check after mounting a tool on the machine?
Run a short test cut on offcut material first. Check that the tool runs without vibration or run-out, that the chips clear instead of packing in the flutes, that the edge is not rubbing the workpiece, and that the sound is steady. Stop immediately if you hear a change in pitch or see burn marks on the cut face.
Do I need special tools to change inserts?
Yes, a correct tool is what protects the seat. Use the wrench or screwdriver that matches your insert screw size and seat the insert without rocking it in its pocket. Bodies, screws, keys and spare inserts are all supplied separately, so a worn edge never puts a whole tool out of service.
Maintenance
When should I flip or replace the insert?
Flip the insert when one face is worn and the tool still has life left in the other faces, and replace it when the edge starts to show on the workpiece. A dull edge shows up first as a rough or burnt cut face and as more power drawn from the spindle.
How do I maintain the tool body and holder?
Clear chips and resin after every shift, clean the seat and screw thread, dry the body before it goes back into the rack, and store it so the edge is not touching other steel. Never use a wire brush on the cutting edge, and never lever the edge to free a stuck tool.
Why is my cut burning or leaving a rough finish?
In almost every case the cause is on the machine rather than in the tool: a worn or chipped edge, feed rate set too low for the material, spindle speed that does not suit the panel, insufficient extraction, or a holder with run-out. Check the edge first, then set the parameters for your material and thickness.
Why does my acrylic chip or melt when I mill it?
Heat. Acrylic softens ahead of the cutting edge and the edge pushes the softened plastic aside instead of shearing it. Run a sharp single-flute cutter, take lighter passes, keep chips cleared with air or vacuum, and support the sheet flat. The 1006 series spiral cutters and the 1015 and 1008 series down-cut knives are built for this work.
Company & Manufacturing
Are you a manufacturer or a trading company?
We are a manufacturer. VPOINT TOOL has produced carbide woodworking tooling since 2008, with manufacturing in Dongguan and in Chengdu (Chongzhou), China. Sales and engineering sit with our Chengdu team.
Do you support OEM / ODM?
Yes. We produce under your brand from drawings or samples — custom geometry, grades, laser marking and packaging.
Can you copy a tool from a sample or a drawing?
Yes, that is how most custom projects start. Send the original tool, or a dimensioned drawing, and tell us the machine and the material. We confirm the geometry and the grade before we quote.
Where exactly are your factories located?
We run two factories in China: our head office and sales team are in Chengdu (Chongzhou Industrial Zone), Sichuan, and our second factory is in Dongguan, Guangdong. Both produce carbide and PCD woodworking tooling for export to more than 100 countries.
Can we visit or audit your factory?
Yes. We welcome customer visits and supplier audits at both the Chengdu (Chongzhou) and Dongguan factories. Contact us in advance and we will arrange the schedule, a production walk-through and a meeting with the engineering team.
Which industries do your tools serve?
Woodworking and cabinet making across the solid hardwood, MDF and laminate range, plus aluminium profile work for the automotive, aerospace and construction industries.
Ordering, MOQ & Samples
What is your MOQ?
MOQ depends on the tool type and size — it is not one fixed number. Tell us the item and the size, and the exact figure is confirmed on your quotation.
Can I order a small trial quantity first?
Yes. Trial quantities are accepted so you can test on your own machine and your own material. Tell us what you run and we will recommend the right first set.
Do you supply free samples?
Sample policy depends on the item and the quantity. Contact us and we will confirm what can be sent free of charge and what is chargeable — custom parts are quoted individually.
How do I get an accurate quotation?
Send these five things: the workpiece material, the machine brand and model, the cutting edge diameter (or the drawing), the quantity, and the destination country. WhatsApp +86 186 6783 0116 or email johnlee@vpointtools.com.
Lead Time, Payment & Logistics
What is your lead time?
Standard and custom items differ, and quantity matters too. Tell us the item and the quantity, and we confirm the exact date in writing on your order.
What payment methods do you accept?
Terms are agreed case by case and written on the proforma invoice. Ask us which options apply to your country and your order value.
How do you ship, and can you ship to my country?
We ship worldwide by express, air and sea freight, and we recommend the best option for your volume and deadline. Your own forwarder or account is welcome.
Who pays import duty and taxes?
Import duties and taxes are the buyer’s responsibility unless agreed otherwise in writing. We declare accurately and provide the invoice and packing list your customs authority needs.
Can you combine several items into one shipment?
Yes. Mixed orders are routine — we pack and ship them together so you pay a single freight charge.
Grades & Materials
What carbide grades do you offer?
We work with several carbide grades and can also supply PCD-tipped tooling. The grade is chosen for the application — edge hardness, substrate toughness and coating are matched to your workpiece. Our current grade designations are listed on our Carbide Grades page.
How do your VP grades compare with KY / YG / KN designations?
Grade letters are each supplier’s own internal designation, not an industry standard — different factories use different letters for comparable carbide. We quote our own VP designations, and on request we state the equivalent performance class in writing so you can compare like for like. We do not represent any other company’s brand.
Which grade should I use for MDF, laminate and particleboard?
Abrasive panel products wear an edge fast, so they call for the hardest and most wear-resistant option we can supply — and they are the classic case for PCD. Tell us the panel type and thickness, and see the Carbide Router Bits Guide for cutting parameters.
Which grade is best for solid hardwood?
Solid timber is far kinder to the cutting edge than panel products, so a tougher, impact-resistant grade is usually the best balance of edge life and cost. Tell us the species and the moisture content.
Which grade for aluminium and non-ferrous metals?
Aluminium and non-ferrous metals need a sharp, polished edge with good heat resistance — usually a different grade family from woodworking panels. Tell us the alloy, and whether you cut solid stock or extrusion.
What steel are your tool bodies made of?
Every replaceable-insert tool body we machine is made from 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel, an alloy steel chosen for rigidity, vibration damping and long insert-screw thread life. We state the body material and carbide grade in writing with every quotation.
What materials can your tools cut?
Our tooling covers the woodworking range – solid hardwood, MDF, laminate and particleboard – plus plastics, acrylic and aluminium. Solid carbide end mills, single-flute spiral cutters and the aluminium saw blade families all run on these materials. Tell us the material and we confirm the grade and geometry before quoting.
What is the difference between upcut and downcut spiral cutters?
The spiral direction decides where chips go and which face finishes clean. An upcut helix lifts chips up and out of the groove, so groove bottoms come out clean and the tool runs cooler. A downcut helix presses chips down and holds the sheet flat, so the top face of laminates, plywood and veneer finishes clean. Both directions share the same shank and diameter ranges, so one collet set covers both.
Which cutter should I use for acrylic and plastic sheets?
For cutting parts out of sheet, the 1015 and 1008 series down-cut single blade knives hold the sheet flat and cut chip-free. For engraving, lettering and thin-wall detail work, the 1006 series single-flute spiral milling cutters cover cutting diameters from 1 to 3.175 mm on a 3.175 mm shank. Larger acrylic work runs on the 3 to 8 mm upcut end mills.
Do you have cutters for aluminium and non-ferrous metals?
Yes. The carbide step end mill is built for pockets, contours and stepped profiles on aluminium extrusions, with flute geometry set for aluminium chip clearance. The saw blade families cover industrial bars and plates, door and window profiles, radiators and turntables. Send the machine and the section and we confirm the specification.
Customisation
Can you customise the shank diameter?
Yes. Standard shanks are 6 mm, 6.35 mm (1/4″), 8 mm, 12 mm and 12.7 mm (1/2″); solid carbide micro end mills are also available in 3.175 mm and 4 mm. Special shanks can be made to drawing.
Can you make a custom profile or geometry?
Yes — custom profiles are core business for us. Send the profile drawing or a moulding sample and we will match the section, the edge count and the material.
Do you offer coatings?
Yes, coatings are available and are selected to suit the workpiece and the cycle time. Tell us what you cut and the life you get today, and we will recommend a coating to test.
Can I buy screws, keys and spare inserts separately?
Yes. Bodies, inserts, screws and keys are all available as spares, so a worn edge never puts a tool out of service.
Can saw blades be made to a specific diameter, tooth count and bore?
Yes. The industrial bar and sheet blade is made to your requirement for diameter, tooth count and thickness, and we confirm the bore against your machine before production starts.
Can you mark our brand on the tools and packaging?
Yes. OEM and ODM production runs under your brand – custom geometry, grades, laser marking and packaging are all part of the service.
Warranty & Support
What is your warranty policy?
One year against manufacturing defects. If a tool fails from a manufacturing cause, we replace it.
What if a tool arrives damaged or fails in use?
Send us a photo of the tool, the carton and the failure, together with the material and the machine settings you were running. We confirm the cause and put it right — replacement, credit or a revised recommendation.
Can I get a test report with my sample?
Yes. Every order is inspected before shipment and a sample test report is available on request, so you can check geometry and grade against the same batch you are evaluating.
How do you control quality?
Every order is inspected before shipment, and a sample test report is available on request.
