Rainbow Coated Carbide Rotary Burr Set for Rotary Tools

Multi-color (rainbow) coated carbide burrs for detailed metal carving and surface treatment with standard rotary tools.

Design and Construction — a VPOINT solid tungsten carbide rotary burr for die grinders, sized for steel / stainless welds and similar work. YG8 carbide at HRA 89–91; die-grinder reference speeds are in the performance table below, with the flute-style guidance in the FAQ. ISO 9001 production, batch-verified, custom sizes from drawings.

Design and Construction

Carbide burr heads finished with a rainbow (multi-color PVD) coating. Beyond the distinctive finish, the coating raises surface hardness and resists chip welding, and the geometry range covers cylinder-to-flame contours.

How It Works

Mounted in any standard rotary tool at 6,000-50,000 RPM; the coated flutes carve and finish in controlled passes.

Applications

Detailed metal carving, engraving support, surface treatment, model and mould work.

Suitable Materials

Steel, stainless steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals.

Field Cases

  • Jewellery bench: the low-friction finish keeps 3 mm heads clean through wax and silver carving.
  • Engraving studio: rainbow heads are the detail set – instantly identifiable at arm’s length.
  • Model maker: layered PVD survives brass and aluminium detail passes without loading.

Performance Data

Metric Value / Observation
Coating note The rainbow colour comes from layered PVD nitrides – hardness sits in the TiAlN/TiCN class (published coating data)
Detail work Low friction keeps fine heads from loading during engraving passes
Identification Distinct colour makes detail heads easy to separate from roughing heads
Thickness 1-4 µm – geometry unchanged

Material Comparison: Rainbow PVD vs. TiAlN vs. TiN

How the multi-colour finish compares on paper – published coating data:

Property Rainbow PVD (this burr) TiAlN TiN
Look Violet-blue-gold gradient Purple-black Gold
Hardness class About 3,000-3,500 HV (PVD family) 3,300-3,500 HV 2,300 HV
Friction behaviour Low – chips wash off Low Moderate
Heat stability High (PVD nitride class) 800-900 °C 550-600 °C
Best role Detail carving and visible-finish work Dry high-speed steel work General steel, budget jobs

Delivery Scope

Burr in plastic case; sets and single shapes available. Laser marking on request.

Why Choose VPOINT

VPOINT TOOLS has manufactured precision cutting tools since 2008 in two production bases (Sichuan and Dongguan, China) under ISO 9001 quality management. Every carbide burr is supported by a one-year warranty, custom and non-standard engraving service, and regrinding service. Coated burrs are produced in-house, so colors and geometry can be mixed per order.

Precision & Quality Control

Each burr is checked for flute geometry, cutting-edge sharpness, shank runout and concentricity at micrometre level before packing; production batches are traceable and packed per ISO 9001 procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cut direction — R or L?

+Right-cut suits standard forward feeding on right-handed grinders; left-cut is for reverse feeding or left-handed work. Match the direction to your grinding posture.

Coated or uncoated heads?

+TiAlN adds heat resistance for stainless; DLC lubricity suits aluminium; uncoated YG8 is the all-round steel choice. The coating pays for itself on hard, gummy stock.

How do I extend edge life?

+Keep rpm inside the table band, use light pressure, and clean the flutes — packed chips are the main killer of burr edges.

Is the burr made of solid tungsten carbide?

Yes. The cutting head is PVD-coated tungsten carbide.

Which shank sizes are available?

6 mm (1/4″) shank standard.

What speed should I run the burr at?

Run between 6,000 and 50,000 RPM depending on the cutter diameter; use the lower end for larger diameters and the higher end for fine detail work.

Which materials can I machine with it?

Steel, stainless steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals.

Do you accept custom or non-standard sizes?

Yes. VPOINT supports custom shapes, sizes, shank lengths and laser marking on non-standard orders (minimum order quantity applies).
