Rough/Fine Trimming Cutters

Rough/fine trimming cutters for edge banders, D 56-75 mm, Z 3-6, bores 16/20 mm. PCD edges for trim and corner-radius stations.

The VPOINT Rough/Fine Trimming Cutters are a carbide woodworking cutting tool. Ideal for rough and fine trim stations on edge banders, edge band flush trimming and corner radius forming on edge banders.

The rough/fine trimming cutter series covers edge banding trimming units with PCD cutting edges, in -J (rough) and -N (fine) versions across 56, 69, 70 and 75 mm diameters, matched to the station’s bore and bond.

Design and Construction

The rough/fine trimming cutter series covers the trimming units of edge banding machines, with PCD cutting edges. Part numbers (-J and -N series) cover diameters (ØD) of 56, 69, 70 and 75 mm with bores (Ød) of 16 and 20 mm, cutting heights (H) of 13-14 mm and tooth counts of 3 to 6, as listed in the specifications table.

How It Works

Mounted in the trimming units of the edge bander, the cutters trim the banded edge flush and form the corner radii. The roughing station removes band overhang; the fine station finishes the edge surface. PCD edges hold the trim geometry in abrasive banding material (PVC, ABS, melamine band) far longer than carbide.

Applications

  • Rough and fine trim stations on edge banders
  • Edge band flush trimming
  • Corner radius forming on edge banders
  • Furniture panel edge finishing

Suitable Materials

  • Edge banding strips (PVC, ABS, melamine, wood veneer)
  • Melamine-faced particleboard
  • MDF and laminated boards
  • Veneered panels

Suitable materials: melamine-faced particleboard, MDF, laminate HPL, veneered plywood, solid hardwood

The PCD edges resist the abrasive fillers in PVC and melamine bands, holding trim quality across long production runs.

Material Comparison: PCD vs. Tungsten Carbide

The figures below are typical industry data for production woodworking. PCD does not replace carbide in every job — carbide remains the right choice for steel, cast iron and low-volume general work — but on abrasive sheet goods the difference in service life is decisive.

Property PCD Diamond (This Tool) Tungsten Carbide
Hardness 7,000–9,000 HV 1,500–2,000 HV
Tool life on MDF / particleboard / melamine 15–20× longer (500–1,200 h) 30–60 h (baseline)
Tool life on solid hardwood 10–13× longer (800–2,000 h) 80–150 h (baseline)
Tool life on acrylic / plastics 10–15× longer (1,000–3,000 h) 100–200 h (baseline)
Resharpening cycles 5–8 regrinds (thick tips up to 10); each pass removes only 0.2–0.3 mm of diamond 4–6 regrinds, each removing more material
Surface finish Ra ≤ 0.2 μm achievable, stable over the tool life Ra ~0.8 μm typical, degrades as the edge wears
Thermal conductivity 540–560 W/m·K — heat leaves the edge fast ~80 W/m·K
Friction coefficient ≈ 0.05 — lower cutting forces ≈ 0.3
Suited for Abrasive engineered wood, laminates, composites, plastics, non-ferrous metals General-purpose; the only choice for steel and cast iron

Figures are typical published values; actual tool life depends on the workpiece material, feed rate, depth of cut, machine condition and maintenance schedule.

Delivery Scope

Single cutter. Order by part number with the diameter, bore, height and tooth count stated in the specifications table below.

Why Choose VPOINT

  • One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
  • Custom tooling — diameters, bores, cutting widths and tooth counts built to your drawing or sample.
  • Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration.
  • Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding at a fraction of new-tool cost.
  • Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.

Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.

Precision & Quality Control

Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting diameter (ØD), bore (Ød), cutting width/height (B/H) and overall dimensions are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.

Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.
