PCD Milling Jointing Cutter For Edge Banding

PCD milling jointing cutters for edge banding, D 80-125 mm, Z=3+3, width 35-65 mm. Jointing cutter programme for edge bander stations.

The VPOINT PCD Milling Jointing Cutter For Edge Banding is a CNC milling cutter. Ideal for jointing/pre-milling on edge banders, edge squaring before banding and panel furniture production lines.

The VP-Y PCD milling jointing cutter series pairs PCD cutting edges with steel bodies for the pre-milling and jointing station of edge banding machines, in 80, 100 and 125 mm diameters. Cutterhead width and bore follow the specifications table.

Design and Construction

The VP-Y PCD milling jointing cutter series pairs PCD cutting edges with steel bodies for the pre-milling/jointing station of edge banding machines. Diameters run 80, 100 and 125 mm with bores of 20 and 30 mm, cutting widths of 35 to 65 mm, and two-stage 3+3 tooth designs across the range.

How It Works

The jointing cutter squares the panel edge before banding — the same pre-milling action as the VP-Y series, in our VP part-number programme. The 3+3 design roughs and finishes the edge in one pass, and PCD edges hold the square geometry in abrasive melamine-faced board.

Applications

  • Jointing/pre-milling on edge banders
  • Edge squaring before banding
  • Panel furniture production lines
  • High-volume edge banding

Suitable Materials

  • Melamine-faced particleboard
  • MDF and laminated boards
  • Veneered plywood
  • Solid wood edge panels

Suitable materials: melamine-faced particleboard, MDF, laminate HPL, veneered plywood, solid hardwood

The PCD edges keep the jointed edge square and clean in abrasive boards across long runs.

Material Comparison: PCD vs. Tungsten Carbide

The figures below are typical industry data for production woodworking. PCD does not replace carbide in every job — carbide remains the right choice for steel, cast iron and low-volume general work — but on abrasive sheet goods the difference in service life is decisive.

Property PCD Diamond (This Tool) Tungsten Carbide
Hardness 7,000–9,000 HV 1,500–2,000 HV
Tool life on MDF / particleboard / melamine 15–20× longer (500–1,200 h) 30–60 h (baseline)
Tool life on solid hardwood 10–13× longer (800–2,000 h) 80–150 h (baseline)
Tool life on acrylic / plastics 10–15× longer (1,000–3,000 h) 100–200 h (baseline)
Resharpening cycles 5–8 regrinds (thick tips up to 10); each pass removes only 0.2–0.3 mm of diamond 4–6 regrinds, each removing more material
Surface finish Ra ≤ 0.2 μm achievable, stable over the tool life Ra ~0.8 μm typical, degrades as the edge wears
Thermal conductivity 540–560 W/m·K — heat leaves the edge fast ~80 W/m·K
Friction coefficient ≈ 0.05 — lower cutting forces ≈ 0.3
Suited for Abrasive engineered wood, laminates, composites, plastics, non-ferrous metals General-purpose; the only choice for steel and cast iron

Figures are typical published values; actual tool life depends on the workpiece material, feed rate, depth of cut, machine condition and maintenance schedule.

Delivery Scope

Single cutter. Order by part number with the diameter, bore, width and tooth count stated in the specifications table below.

Why Choose VPOINT

  • One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
  • Custom tooling — diameters, bores, cutting widths and tooth counts built to your drawing or sample.
  • Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration.
  • Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding at a fraction of new-tool cost.
  • Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.

Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.

Precision & Quality Control

Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting diameter (ØD), bore (Ød), cutting width/height (B/H) and overall dimensions are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.

Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.
