Design and Construction

A 3 mm tungsten carbide head on a 6 mm shank, vacuum-coated with TiAlN (titanium aluminium nitride). The coating raises surface hardness and heat resistance, and in side-by-side testing lasts about three times longer than an uncoated burr of the same geometry.

How It Works

Run at 6,000-50,000 RPM; the coated surface resists welding of chips to the flutes, keeping the cut consistent over long runs.

Applications

Precision deburring and finishing in metal fabrication, tool and die maintenance, and robotic or machine-mounted finishing where tool life matters.

Suitable Materials

Steel, stainless steel, cast iron; aluminum cut for non-ferrous work.

Field Cases

  • Robotic finishing cell: TiAlN heads tripled the interval between tool changes on 304 weld dressing.
  • Die shop: dry-grinding hardened cores at high RPM – the oxide film keeps heat in the chip, not the edge.
  • Maintenance: coated and uncoated versions of the same 3 mm head run side by side; the coated one keeps its bite visibly longer.

Performance Data

Metric Value / Observation
Life multiplier Coated carbide tools typically last 2-10x longer than uncoated in comparable tests (coating-industry data)
Coating thickness 2-4 µm PVD layer – geometry unchanged
Stainless note Lower friction reduces chip welding on 304/316
Substrate YG-series carbide below the coating does the structural work

Published coating data from tool-coating makers (Guhring, Schleiftechnik and peers):

Property TiAlN (this burr) TiN Uncoated
Microhardness About 3,300 HV About 2,300 HV 1,300-1,500 HV (substrate)
Max working temperature 800-900 °C 550-600 °C Substrate-bound
Friction coefficient 0.3-0.4 0.4-0.65 Carbide on steel
High-speed behaviour Forms an aluminium-oxide film that reflects heat into the chip Stable to mid speeds Edge heat goes into the burr
Best zone Dry high-speed work, sticky stainless General steel work, cost-driven Soft non-ferrous with Aluma cut

Delivery Scope

Burr in plastic case; standard, double and aluminum cuts available from stock. Custom quantities accepted.

Why Choose VPOINT

VPOINT TOOLS has manufactured precision cutting tools since 2008 in two production bases (Sichuan and Dongguan, China) under ISO 9001 quality management. Every carbide burr is supported by a one-year warranty, custom and non-standard engraving service, and regrinding service. TiAlN coating is applied in-house, so coated and uncoated versions of the same geometry can be supplied together.

Precision & Quality Control

Each burr is checked for flute geometry, cutting-edge sharpness, shank runout and concentricity at micrometre level before packing; production batches are traceable and packed per ISO 9001 procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cut direction — R or L?

+Right-cut suits standard forward feeding on right-handed grinders; left-cut is for reverse feeding or left-handed work. Match the direction to your grinding posture.

Coated or uncoated heads?

+TiAlN adds heat resistance for stainless; DLC lubricity suits aluminium; uncoated YG8 is the all-round steel choice. The coating pays for itself on hard, gummy stock.

How do I extend edge life?

+Keep rpm inside the table band, use light pressure, and clean the flutes — packed chips are the main killer of burr edges.

Is the burr made of solid tungsten carbide?

Yes. The cutting head is tungsten carbide with a TiAlN coating.

Which shank sizes are available?

6 mm (1/4″) shank.

What speed should I run the burr at?

Run between 6,000 and 50,000 RPM depending on the cutter diameter; use the lower end for larger diameters and the higher end for fine detail work.

Which materials can I machine with it?

Steel, stainless steel, cast iron; use the aluminum cut for non-ferrous material.

Do you accept custom or non-standard sizes?

Yes. VPOINT supports custom shapes, sizes, shank lengths and laser marking on non-standard orders (minimum order quantity applies).
