Oval Shape Tungsten Carbide Burrs, 6 mm Shank (SE Series)
SE oval-shape single-cut carbide burrs on 6 mm shanks for contoured surfaces, inner-bore blending and die work.
Design and Construction
The SE oval (flame-radius) head is ground from integral tungsten carbide with a single cut. The rounded profile reaches curved and tapered surfaces that cylinder heads cannot contact.
How It Works
Run at 6,000-50,000 RPM, the oval head is swept along the contour to blend radii and smooth transitions without stepping into the surface.
Applications
Die and mould blending, curved-surface finishing, inner-bore and tube welding seam work, impeller and blade dressing.
Suitable Materials
Steel, cast iron, stainless steel, copper alloys and non-ferrous metals.
Field Cases
- Impeller repair: blends a blade root into the hub – the oval rolls along the transition where a cylinder corner would gouge.
- Mould fitter: cleans a tapered latch pocket; the oval follows the draft without stepping.
- Tube fabricator: smooths an oval handhole cut-out – matching geometry to the cut shape.
Performance Data
| Metric | Value / Observation |
|---|---|
| Blend quality | A swept oval leaves no transition step between two radii – the usual reason fitters pick it over cylinders |
| Speed, 6 mm head | About 40,000 RPM starting in steel; reduce for deep internal work |
| Access note | The rounded flank reaches shoulder-to-wall transitions a cylinder corner cannot contact |
| Edge hardness | 1,300-1,500 HV YG carbide |
Material Comparison: Head Geometry Face-Off: Oval vs. Cylinder vs. Tree
Why the oval profile earns a slot in the kit – typical industry guidance:
| Factor | SE Oval (this burr) | Cylinder Head | Tree Head |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contact patch | Curved, blends in every sweep direction | Flat face + corner radius | Angled flanks + pointed nose |
| Best surface | Inside radii, ovals, tapered walls | Flat faces, shoulders, step edges | Corners, notches, hard-to-reach angles |
| Risk on curved work | Low – no corner to dig | Corner digs into radii | Point can score |
| Typical users | Die and mould fitters, impeller shops | Fabricators | Pattern makers |
Delivery Scope
Burr in plastic tube; custom head diameter and cut length available.
Why Choose VPOINT
VPOINT TOOLS has manufactured precision cutting tools since 2008 in two production bases (Sichuan and Dongguan, China) under ISO 9001 quality management. Every carbide burr is supported by a one-year warranty, custom and non-standard engraving service, and regrinding service. Oval geometry is available in multiple head diameters on the same 6 mm shank.
Precision & Quality Control
Each burr is checked for flute geometry, cutting-edge sharpness, shank runout and concentricity at micrometre level before packing; production batches are traceable and packed per ISO 9001 procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the burr made of solid tungsten carbide?
Yes. The cutting head is integral tungsten carbide.
Which shank sizes are available?
6 mm (1/4″) shank standard.
What speed should I run the burr at?
Run between 6,000 and 50,000 RPM depending on the cutter diameter; use the lower end for larger diameters and the higher end for fine detail work.
Which materials can I machine with it?
Steel, cast iron, stainless steel and non-ferrous metals.
Do you accept custom or non-standard sizes?
Yes. VPOINT supports custom shapes, sizes, shank lengths and laser marking on non-standard orders (minimum order quantity applies).
