PCD Pre-Milling Cutter 80 & 125 mm
PCD pre-milling cutter heads machine the panel edge before adhesive and edge band are applied. The operation removes an allowance from the edge to reduce saw marks and burrs and prepare the edge for the glue station. This series covers 80 mm and 125 mm diameters with 3+3 diamond teeth, multiple cutting heights from 35 to 65 mm and keyed bores matched to the spindle.
PCD Pre-Milling Cutter 80 & 125 mm for Edge Banding Machines
PCD pre-milling cutter heads machine the panel edge before adhesive and edge band are applied. The operation removes an allowance from the edge to reduce saw marks and burrs and prepare the edge for the glue station. This series covers 80 mm and 125 mm diameters with 3+3 diamond teeth, multiple cutting heights from 35 to 65 mm and keyed bores matched to the spindle.

Design and Construction
The cutter body is machined from aluminum with a hardened surface, carrying polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutting teeth in a 3+3 arrangement. The mounting bore is produced with a keyway that must match the shaft and fixing arrangement of the edge-bander pre-milling unit. Each listed row in the specification table is a separate configuration; dimensions from different rows are not combined.
How It Works
On the edge bander the pre-milling unit runs the cutter against the panel edge before the glue station, removing the machining allowance left by sizing. The prepared edge then receives adhesive and the edge band, followed by rough and fine trimming after application. Bond quality depends on the board condition, adhesive and machine settings together with the prepared edge.
Applications
- Pre-milling before edge application on automatic edge banders
- Edge preparation for veneered panels and composite boards
- Panel furniture, cabinet and door production lines
- Review available for CNC spindle milling, four-sided moulding, moulding and tenoning equipment
Suitable Materials
- MDF and density fibreboard — provide board grade, thickness, coating and edge-machining allowance
- Calcium-silicate board — provide the exact board composition and thickness for application review
- Particleboard, plywood and other composite panels — confirm substrate and coating with the order
- Other boards or solid wood — send the substrate or wood species and a sample or current-tool reference; suitability is confirmed before production
Material Comparison: Tungsten Carbide vs. Diamond (PCD) Cutter Head
Typical industry data for reference. Actual results depend on the panel grade, machine condition and feed rate.
| Property | Tungsten Carbide Cutter Head | Diamond (PCD) Cutter Head |
| Cutting material hardness | 1,500–2,000 HV | 7,000–9,000 HV |
| Service life on MDF / particleboard | Baseline (1×) | 10–20× longer edge life |
| Regrinding / refurbishing cycles | 2–4 times | 5–8 times |
| Cut edge quality | Ra 0.4–0.8 µm, more fuzzing | Ra 0.2–0.4 µm, cleaner edge |
| Thermal conductivity | ≈ 100 W/m·K | ≈ 500 W/m·K, heat cleared faster |
| Friction coefficient | ≈ 0.3 | ≈ 0.05–0.1, lower cutting force |
| Chipping risk on brittle panels | Higher at high feed | Lower, stable edge at high feed |
| Cutter change frequency | More frequent | Fewer changes, less downtime |
| Cost per metre of edge | Higher over long runs | Lower over long runs |
Delivery Scope
Each order includes the selected cutter head configuration, protective packaging and an inspection record. Matched pairs, keyed bores and non-standard heights are produced to order after the machine details are confirmed.
Why Choose VPOINT
- One-year warranty on every cutter head
- Custom and non-standard sizes supported, including keyed bores and matched pairs
- Regrinding service to extend tool life
- Factory direct since 2008, ISO 9001 certified
- Dual manufacturing bases in Sichuan and Dongguan, China
Precision & Quality Control
Every cutter head is inspected at micron level before shipment: bore diameter, mounting runout, body concentricity and insert seat geometry are checked against the drawing. Production follows an ISO 9001 process with batch traceability, so reorders match the original configuration.
Specifications
Dimensions are in millimetres. D is outside diameter, d is mounting-bore diameter and H is nominal cutter height. Each row is a listed configuration. Confirm the usable cutting height and permitted panel thickness for the actual cutter and machine; H alone is not a maximum-board-thickness specification.
| Outside diameter D (mm) | Bore d (mm) | Height H (mm) | Teeth Z | Rotation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 80 | 20 | 35 | 3+3 | Confirm with machine |
| 80 | 20 | 50 | 3+3 | Confirm with machine |
| 80 | 20 | 65 | 3+3 | Confirm with machine |
| 125 | 30 | 35 | 3+3 | Confirm with machine |
| 125 | 30 | 43 | 3+3 | Confirm with machine |
| 125 | 30 | 48 | 3+3 | Confirm with machine |
| 125 | 30 | 50 | 3+3 | Confirm with machine |
| 125 | 30 | 65 | 3+3 | Confirm with machine |

80 mm outside diameter, 20 mm bore, 35 mm nominal height; 3+3 teeth

125 mm outside diameter, 30 mm bore, 48 mm nominal height; 3+3 teeth

125 mm keyed bore must match the shaft and fixing arrangement
Frequently Asked Questions
Which diameters and heights are available?
Two diameters are listed: 80 mm with a 20 mm bore in 35, 50 and 65 mm heights, and 125 mm with a 30 mm keyed bore in 35, 43, 48, 50 and 65 mm heights. All configurations carry 3+3 PCD teeth.
How do I choose the correct bore and keyway?
The keyed bore must match the shaft and fixing arrangement of the pre-milling unit. Send a photo of the bore, keyway, counterbore or recess, shaft and flange so the configuration can be confirmed before ordering.
Is the rotation direction fixed?
Rotation is confirmed for the selected cutter against the machine spindle marking. State whether one cutter or a matched pair is required and include each spindle position.
Can it machine calcium-silicate board?
Calcium-silicate board can be reviewed for application. Provide the exact board composition, grade and thickness together with the edge-machining allowance so suitability is confirmed before production.
