80 mm PCD Pre-Milling Cutter for Edge Banders
This 80 mm PCD pre-milling cutter is designed for edge banding machines processing veneered panels and composite boards. It supports efficient pre-milling before edge application and helps prepare a clean, consistent panel edge for the glue station.
80 mm PCD Pre-Milling Cutter for Edge Banders for Edge Banding Machines
This 80 mm PCD pre-milling cutter is designed for edge banding machines processing veneered panels and composite boards. It supports efficient pre-milling before edge application and helps prepare a clean, consistent panel edge for the glue station.
Design and Construction
The 80 mm cutter body carries 3+3 polycrystalline diamond teeth and is offered in three bore configurations: 20 / 25.4 mm, 20 / 30 mm and a plain 20 mm bore. The cutting height is 35 mm across the series. Confirm which listed bore matches the shaft before ordering.
How It Works
Mounted in the pre-milling unit, the cutter removes an allowance from the panel edge, eliminating saw marks and burrs left by sizing. The prepared edge improves adhesive wetting and bond quality before the edge band is applied, and reduces the load on the trimming units downstream.
Applications
- Pre-milling on automatic edge banders
- Veneered panels and composite board materials
- Panel furniture, cabinet and door production
Suitable Materials
- MDF and density fibreboard
- Veneered panels and composite boards
- Particleboard and plywood — confirm grade and coating with the order
Material Comparison: Tungsten Carbide vs. Diamond (PCD) Cutter Head
Typical industry data for reference. Actual results depend on the panel grade, machine condition and feed rate.
| Property | Tungsten Carbide Cutter Head | Diamond (PCD) Cutter Head |
| Cutting material hardness | 1,500–2,000 HV | 7,000–9,000 HV |
| Service life on MDF / particleboard | Baseline (1×) | 10–20× longer edge life |
| Regrinding / refurbishing cycles | 2–4 times | 5–8 times |
| Cut edge quality | Ra 0.4–0.8 µm, more fuzzing | Ra 0.2–0.4 µm, cleaner edge |
| Thermal conductivity | ≈ 100 W/m·K | ≈ 500 W/m·K, heat cleared faster |
| Friction coefficient | ≈ 0.3 | ≈ 0.05–0.1, lower cutting force |
| Chipping risk on brittle panels | Higher at high feed | Lower, stable edge at high feed |
| Cutter change frequency | More frequent | Fewer changes, less downtime |
| Cost per metre of edge | Higher over long runs | Lower over long runs |
Delivery Scope
Each order includes the selected cutter head configuration, protective packaging and an inspection record. Matched pairs, keyed bores and non-standard heights are produced to order after the machine details are confirmed.
Why Choose VPOINT
- One-year warranty on every cutter head
- Custom and non-standard sizes supported, including keyed bores and matched pairs
- Regrinding service to extend tool life
- Factory direct since 2008, ISO 9001 certified
- Dual manufacturing bases in Sichuan and Dongguan, China
Precision & Quality Control
Every cutter head is inspected at micron level before shipment: bore diameter, mounting runout, body concentricity and insert seat geometry are checked against the drawing. Production follows an ISO 9001 process with batch traceability, so reorders match the original configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which bores are available for the 80 mm cutter?
Three bore configurations are listed: 20 / 25.4 mm, 20 / 30 mm and plain 20 mm, all with a 35 mm cutting height and 3+3 teeth. Confirm the shaft match before ordering.
What information is needed to confirm the configuration?
Send the edge-bander model, the panel material and thickness, the rotation direction and the machine clearance around the pre-milling unit.
Is a custom bore or keyway possible?
Yes. Custom specifications are reviewed against the machine model and required edge finish; send the shaft drawing or a photo of the mounting arrangement.
What is the difference between this and the 125 mm series?
This series is the 80 mm diameter range for standard edge banders; the 125 mm series offers larger diameters with a 30 mm keyed bore for machines that accept it.
