Solid Carbide Burr with Polished Surface, Rotary Burrs for Fine Work
Polished-flute carbide burrs – the flutes are polished after grinding so chips slide and the finish comes out finer.
Design and Construction
A polished-surface line: after grinding, the flutes are polished to remove grinding marks, so chips slide out instead of packing and the cut leaves a finer finish. Same YG carbide and geometry as the standard line – the difference is the surface.
How It Works
The polished flank reduces chip adhesion; at equal speed the cut looks cleaner and the burr stays sharp longer in gummy alloys.
Applications
Fine finishing, aluminium and brass work, visible surfaces, jewellery-scale shaping.
Field Cases
- Aluminium fabricator: polished flutes resisted chip welding on 6061 brackets.
- Brass fitting shop: finer as-cast finish straight off the burr – less hand blending.
- Jewellery bench: polished heads left surfaces that needed only tripoli.
Performance Data
| Metric | Value / Observation |
|---|---|
| Finish note | Polished flutes reduce chip adhesion – the main cause of rough finish in soft alloys |
| Hardness | 1,300-1,500 HV with polished flanks |
| Speed reference | About 40,000 RPM starting at 6 mm in aluminium |
| Life note | Less adhesion means less edge loading – longer intervals between cleans |
Suitable Materials
Aluminium, brass, copper, plastics and steel.
Material Comparison: Polished Flutes vs Standard Ground Flutes
What polishing changes on the same geometry:
| Factor | Polished (this burr) | Standard Ground |
|---|---|---|
| Flute surface | Polished – chips slide | Ground – micro-marks hold chips |
| Chip adhesion | Lower | Higher on soft alloys |
| Finish left | Finer | Good but rougher |
| Cleaning interval | Longer | Shorter |
| Best materials | Aluminium, brass, plastics | Steel, cast iron |
Delivery Scope
Burr in plastic tube; polished and standard versions ship together for comparison.
Why Choose VPOINT
Polishing is done in-house after grinding – the step most mills skip.
Precision & Quality Control
Surface finish of flutes sampled per batch alongside geometry.
Specifications
Standard specifications:
| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| Flute finish | Polished after grinding |
| Shank | 6 mm (1/4″) |
| Head material | YG carbide |
| Cut type | Double cut |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is polishing just looks?
No – it reduces chip adhesion, which is what makes soft-alloy cuts rough.
Steel too?
Yes, but the biggest gain is on aluminium and brass.
Same geometry as standard?
Yes – only the surface differs.
Repolish after regrind?
Available on request.
Which shapes?
The polished line covers the common families.
