PCD Dovetail Router Bit
This PCD dovetail router bit cuts dovetail profiles and mating woodworking joints on CNC routers. The diamond edge keeps the dovetail angle accurate in abrasive boards where carbide bits round over quickly.
PCD Dovetail Router Bit for CNC Woodworking
This PCD dovetail router bit cuts dovetail profiles and mating woodworking joints on CNC routers. The diamond edge keeps the dovetail angle accurate in abrasive boards where carbide bits round over quickly.

Design and Construction
+Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutting edges are brazed onto a steel body ground to the dovetail angle. The chart lists part numbers 0303W0904–3808 with cutting diameters from 9.52 to 38.1 mm, cutting heights from 10 to 36 mm and angles of 8° or 14°/14.5°, in 1/4″ and 1/2″ shanks. The series is produced in the Sichuan and Dongguan, China manufacturing bases.
How It Works
+In the CNC router the dovetail profile cuts the angled joint walls in one pass; mating parts are cut with the matching angle for a tight interlock. The PCD edge holds the angle through long joint runs, keeping the fit consistent batch after batch.
Applications
- Dovetail profiles and mating woodworking joints
- Drawer and box joint production on CNC routers
Suitable Materials
- MDF, chipboard and calcium board, subject to grade and application review
- Suitability depends on the specific material grade, profile and machining conditions; confirm the application before ordering
Material Comparison: Traditional Carbide Router Bit vs. Diamond (PCD) Router Bit
+Typical industry data for reference. Actual results depend on the workpiece grade, machine condition and feed rate.
| Property | Traditional Carbide Router Bit | Diamond (PCD) Router Bit |
|---|---|---|
| Cutting edge hardness | 1,500–2,000 HV (carbide) | 7,000–9,000 HV (PCD diamond) |
| Edge life on abrasive panels | Baseline (1×) | 15–20× longer edge life |
| Heat resistance of the edge | Loses hardness above ≈ 315 °C | Retains hardness up to ≈ 1,000 °C |
| Feed rate at equal quality | Lower | Higher |
| Sharpness retention on MDF / particleboard | Dulls quickly | Holds the edge through long runs |
| Regrinding cycles over tool life | 2–4 times | 5–8 times |
| Cut edge quality as the edge wears | More fuzzing and tearout | Consistent clean walls |
| Chipping risk on brittle boards | Higher at high feed | Lower, stable edge at high feed |
| Typical machines | Light-duty routers | CNC routers, engraving and routing machines |
| Cost per metre of cut | Higher over long runs | Lower over long runs |
Delivery Scope
Each tool is packed in an individual plastic box.
+Each order also includes an inspection record. Send the dovetail angle, width, depth and mating-part dimensions, plus the joint drawing, machine model, cutting direction and quantity so the configuration is confirmed before production.
Why Choose VPOINT
+VPOINT supports this PCD router bit series with:
- One-year warranty on every tool
- Custom profiles, diameters and shanks produced to order
- Regrinding service to extend tool life
- Factory direct since 2008, ISO 9001 certified
- Dual manufacturing bases in Sichuan and Dongguan, China
Precision & Quality Control
+Every dovetail router bit is inspected before shipment: cutting diameter, radius, shank diameter and tool runout are checked against the specification table at micron level. Production follows an ISO 9001 process with batch traceability, so reorders match the original configuration.
