CNC Insert V-Groove 60 Deg Router Bits
Our cutting-edge CNC tool features premium-grade carbide insert knives, allowing for two uses from each insert. When one edge begins to show wear, simply rotate the insert to access a fresh cutting edge.

Advantages of Insert Tooling:
- Long lasting insert knives provide superior smooth quality cuts every time
- Quick and precise replacements of dull knives
- Due to insert accuracy tool life is extended
- Insert tooling allows for harder grades of carbide
- Special carbide grades for special applications
- Cost effective solution compared to replacing brazed router bits
These industrial V-Groove insert router bits are specifically designed for applications such as:
- Miter folds – achieve flawless joints
- Signmaking and lettering
Excellent for cutting:
- Aluminum, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Gold, Silver & Carbon Fiber
(Engraving Only) - Acrylic/Plastic
- Composites
- Composite Decking
- Epoxy (Epoxy Resins)
- Foam
- High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
- Laminate
- Melamine
- MDF/HDF
- PVC
- Sign Board
- Solid Surface
- Veneered Plywood
- Wood
- Xanita® Board*
- 20lbs High Density Urethane

Design and Construction
The CNC insert V-groove 60° router bit pairs a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body with replaceable tungsten carbide insert knives. 60° included angle with replaceable insert knives on a steel body. Diameter, shank, cutting length and insert size are matched to your machine when ordering — send the machine model or old bit as a sample.
How It Works
The insert knives seat in precision pockets and present ground carbide edges to the workpiece. When an edge dulls, the knife is turned to its second edge or swapped in minutes — the body, its shank and its concentricity stay on the spindle, and the next cut lands at the same dimension.
Applications
- 60° V-grooving on CNC routers
- Panel V-groove work
- Slot and chamfer passes
- Sign and display cuts
Suitable Materials
- Melamine-faced particleboard
- MDF and laminated boards
- Plywood and veneered panels
- Solid wood

Replaceable knives keep a fresh 60° V edge on the body across long runs.
System Comparison: Replaceable Insert vs. Solid Knife
Insert bits keep the steel body in service and replace only the cutting edges. For production routing and panel work, this is usually the lower-cost way to hold edge quality.
| Property | Replaceable Insert Knife (This Tool) | Solid Profile Knife |
|---|---|---|
| Edge replacement | Swap the worn insert only; the steel body stays in service | Regrind or replace the complete tool |
| Body material | 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body, reused across insert changes | Whole tool consumed as the edge wears |
| Downtime per edge change | Minutes — index or swap the insert | Send out for regrinding or buy a new tool |
| Profile changes | Fit a different insert geometry to the same body | New tool required per profile |
| Edge condition | Fresh edge on every change; consistent cut quality | Edge quality drifts between regrinds |
| Best suited for | Production cutterheads with repeat profiles | One-off profiles and low-volume work |
Solid knives remain the better choice for one-off profiles and very low volumes.
Body Material: 40Cr Chrome-Molybdenum Steel vs. 45 Carbon Steel

| Property | 40Cr (VPOINT body) | 45 carbon steel (common alternative) |
|---|---|---|
| Chromium content | 0.80–1.10% | ≤0.25% (residual) |
| Tensile strength, quenched & tempered | ≥980 MPa | ≥600 MPa |
| Yield strength, quenched & tempered | ≥785 MPa | ≥355 MPa |
| Hardenability (oil-quench critical diameter) | ~19–28 mm | ~6–9.5 mm |
| Quench method & risk | Oil quench — slow cooling, low distortion | Water quench — cracking tendency (GB/T 699 note) |
| Fatigue limit, typical | ~450–550 MPa | ~280–340 MPa |
| Tempering stability | Better — holds hardness at higher tempering temperatures | Lower |
| Nitriding suitability | Yes — HV800–1000 surface | Not recommended |
| Service life, typical field use | 2–3 years | 3–6 months |
Figures are typical published values (GB/T 3077-2015 for 40Cr, GB/T 699-2015 for 45 steel); confirm against material data sheets before specifying. Service life figures are typical field-use data reported by the manufacturer.
Delivery Scope
Single bit. Order by product code with the diameter, shank, cutting length and tooth count stated in the specifications table below.
Why Choose VPOINT
- One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
- Custom tooling — diameters, bores, cutting widths and tooth counts built to your drawing or sample.
- Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration.
- Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding at a fraction of new-tool cost.
- Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.
Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.
Precision & Quality Control
Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting diameter (ØD), bore (Ød), cutting width/height (B/H) and overall dimensions are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.
Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.
