Diamond Proformance Router

PCD compression spiral (Z1+1) router bits, D 12-18 mm, cutting length 25-35 mm, overall length 120-165 mm for nesting machines. One up-cut and one down-cut flute finish both faces of laminate-faced panels in a single pass.

The VPOINT Diamond Proformance Router is an insert-knife router bit. Ideal for nested-based routing of laminate-faced panels, cabinet door and drawer front production and two-faced panel machining where both surfaces must finish clean.

The VP0013L series performance router pairs a solid PCD cutting edge with a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body in a Z1+1 compression spiral: one up-cut flute above one down-cut flute, so both panel faces stay clean. Diameter, shank and cutting length follow the specifications table.

Design and Construction

The VP0013L series performance router pairs a solid PCD (polycrystalline diamond) cutting edge with a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body. The Z1+1 compression spiral arrangement runs one up-cut flute above one down-cut flute, so the tool shears toward the table on the upper section and away from it on the lower section in the same pass. Cutting diameters (ØD) run 12 to 18 mm with matching shanks (Ød) of 12 to 16 mm; usable cutting length (L1) spans 25 to 35 mm and overall length (L) 120 to 165 mm — the extended shank reaches into deep nesting-machine work zones.

How It Works

A compression spiral cuts both faces of a panel clean in a single pass: the up-cut section finishes the top surface while the down-cut section prevents the bottom laminate from chipping. This matters most on two-faced sheet goods, where a straight up-cut or down-cut spiral can only finish one face. The long overall length keeps the shank clear of vacuum pods and fixture rails on automatic nesting machines.

Applications

  • Nested-based routing of laminate-faced panels
  • Cabinet door and drawer front production
  • Two-faced panel machining where both surfaces must finish clean
  • CNC routing and automatic nesting machines

Suitable Materials

  • Melamine-faced particleboard and MDF
  • Laminate (HPL) sheets
  • Veneered plywood
  • Solid wood

Suitable materials: melamine-faced particleboard, MDF, laminate HPL, veneered plywood, solid hardwood

The PCD edge holds its profile in abrasive sheet goods, keeping finished dimensions stable across long production runs.

Material Comparison: PCD vs. Tungsten Carbide

The figures below are typical industry data for production woodworking. PCD does not replace carbide in every job — carbide remains the right choice for steel, cast iron and low-volume general work — but on abrasive sheet goods the difference in service life is decisive.

Property PCD Diamond (This Tool) Tungsten Carbide
Hardness 7,000–9,000 HV 1,500–2,000 HV
Tool life on MDF / particleboard / melamine 15–20× longer (500–1,200 h) 30–60 h (baseline)
Tool life on solid hardwood 10–13× longer (800–2,000 h) 80–150 h (baseline)
Tool life on acrylic / plastics 10–15× longer (1,000–3,000 h) 100–200 h (baseline)
Resharpening cycles 5–8 regrinds (thick tips up to 10); each pass removes only 0.2–0.3 mm of diamond 4–6 regrinds, each removing more material
Surface finish Ra ≤ 0.2 μm achievable, stable over the tool life Ra ~0.8 μm typical, degrades as the edge wears
Thermal conductivity 540–560 W/m·K — heat leaves the edge fast ~80 W/m·K
Friction coefficient ≈ 0.05 — lower cutting forces ≈ 0.3
Suited for Abrasive engineered wood, laminates, composites, plastics, non-ferrous metals General-purpose; the only choice for steel and cast iron

Figures are typical published values; actual tool life depends on the workpiece material, feed rate, depth of cut, machine condition and maintenance schedule.

Delivery Scope

Single cutter. Order by part number with the diameter, cutting length and shank stated in the specifications table below.

Why Choose VPOINT

  • One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
  • Custom tooling — geometries, diameters, cutting lengths and shank configurations built to your drawing or sample.
  • Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration and special applications.
  • Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding, restoring near-original edge performance at a fraction of new-tool cost.
  • Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.

Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.

Precision & Quality Control

Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting edge condition, cutting diameter (ØD), shank diameter (Ød), cutting length (L1) and overall length (L) are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.

Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.
