Four Teeth Edgesealing Knife
Four-tooth edge sealing knives, D 25-26.8 mm, shank 6.35 mm, profile height 3.2-4.5 mm, working length 1-3 mm. Multi-edge trimming of edge banding flush with the panel face.
The VPOINT Four Teeth Edgesealing Knife is a replaceable-knife cutting tool. Ideal for edge banding trimming on panel lines, edge sealing and flush trimming and cabinet and furniture edge finishing.
The four-tooth edge sealing knife is a multi-edge cutter on a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body: four cutting edges share the load, so each edge lasts longer between changes. Cutting geometry and insert sizes follow the specifications table for the edging station.
Design and Construction
The four-tooth edge sealing knife is a multi-edge cutter on a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body. The four cutting edges (Z4) share the cutting load, so each edge lasts longer between changes. Cutting diameters (D) run 25 to 26.8 mm with a 6.35 mm shank (d), profile heights (H) of 3.2 to 4.5 mm and working lengths (L) of 1 to 3 mm, matched to standard edge banding thicknesses.

How It Works
The four edges shear the edge banding flush with the panel face in one pass; as each edge dulls it is indexed to the next position, so the knife keeps cutting without coming out of the machine. The multi-edge geometry reduces the load per edge and keeps the trimmed edge free of crush marks.
Applications
- Edge banding trimming on panel lines
- Edge sealing and flush trimming
- Cabinet and furniture edge finishing
- Continuous edgebander operation
Suitable Materials
- Melamine-faced particleboard and MDF
- Laminate (HPL) sheets
- Edge banding strips (PVC, ABS, wood veneer)
- Veneered plywood

The steel body keeps its mounting reference across edge indexing, keeping trim depth stable across long production runs.
System Comparison: Replaceable Insert vs. Solid Knife
Insert-system knives keep the expensive part — the body — in service and replace only the cutting edge. For production cutterheads running repeat profiles, this is usually the lower-cost way to hold edge quality.
| Property | Replaceable Insert Knife (This Tool) | Solid Profile Knife |
|---|---|---|
| Edge replacement | Swap the worn insert only; the steel body stays in service | Regrind or replace the complete tool |
| Body material | 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body, reused across insert changes | Whole tool consumed as the edge wears |
| Downtime per edge change | Minutes — index or swap the insert | Send out for regrinding or buy a new tool |
| Profile changes | Fit a different insert geometry to the same body | New tool required per profile |
| Edge condition | Fresh edge on every change; consistent cut quality | Edge quality drifts between regrinds |
| Best suited for | Production cutterheads with repeat profiles | One-off profiles and low-volume work |
Solid knives remain the better choice for one-off profiles and very low volumes.
Material Comparison: PCD vs. Tungsten Carbide
The figures below are typical industry data for production woodworking. PCD does not replace carbide in every job — carbide remains the right choice for low-volume general work — but on abrasive sheet goods the difference in blade life is decisive.
| Property | PCD Diamond (This Blade) | Tungsten Carbide |
|---|---|---|
| Hardness | 7,000–9,000 HV | 1,500–2,000 HV |
| Tool life on MDF / particleboard / melamine | 15–20× longer (500–1,200 h) | 30–60 h (baseline) |
| Tool life on solid hardwood | 10–13× longer (800–2,000 h) | 80–150 h (baseline) |
| Tool life on abrasive boards (fibre cement / composites) | 10–15× longer | baseline |
| Edge renewal | Limited regrinds — the economics come from 15–20× longer intervals between changes, not regrind count | 4–6 regrinds at shorter intervals |
| Cut finish | Ra ≤ 0.2 μm achievable, stable over the blade life | Ra ~0.8 μm typical, degrades as teeth wear |
| Thermal conductivity | 540–560 W/m·K — heat leaves the tooth tip fast | ~80 W/m·K |
| Friction coefficient | ≈ 0.05 — lower cutting forces and heat | ≈ 0.3 |
| Suited for | Abrasive engineered wood, laminates, composites, fibre cement, non-ferrous metals | General-purpose solid-wood work; the economic choice at lower volumes |
Figures are typical published values; actual blade life depends on the workpiece material, feed rate, depth of cut, machine condition and maintenance schedule.
Delivery Scope
Single knife. Order by part number with the diameter and working length stated in the specifications table below.
Why Choose VPOINT
- One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
- Custom tooling — geometries, diameters, cutting lengths and shank configurations built to your drawing or sample.
- Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration and special applications.
- Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding, restoring near-original edge performance at a fraction of new-tool cost.
- Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.
Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.
Precision & Quality Control
Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting edge condition, cutting diameter (ØD), shank diameter (Ød), cutting length (L1) and overall length (L) are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.
Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.
