Roundover bits with insert knives are specialized router bits used to create rounded edges on materials like wood. They feature replaceable insert knives, allowing for easy maintenance and consistent cutting performance. These bits are cost-effective as you only need to replace the knives when they become dull, rather than the entire bit. They offer versatility in achieving different edge profiles

Product Details:

Our Roundover Bits with insert knives are the ultimate router bits for perfecting the edges of wood and other materials. The innovative design of these bits easily creates beautifully rounded edges that cannot be achieved with traditional bits. With our Roundover Bits, you can create flawless details and refined finishes, making your woodworking projects works of art.

Roundover bits with insert knives are router bits designed to create rounded edges on wood or other materials. Unlike traditional router bits with fixed blades, these bits feature replaceable insert knives, offering several advantages:

  1. Cost Efficiency: When the cutting edge becomes dull, you can replace the insert knives instead of the entire bit, which can be more economical in the long run.

  2. Consistent Cutting Performance: Insert knives can be easily replaced or rotated to maintain consistent cutting performance, reducing downtime.

  3. Versatility: These bits often come with different radii options, allowing you to switch between various profiles without changing the entire bit.

  4. Ease of Maintenance: Changing insert knives is usually straightforward, making maintenance easier and faster.

Design and Construction

The roundover router bit with insert knives pairs a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body with replaceable tungsten carbide insert knives. Diameter (ØD) 27 mm with 6 and 6.35 mm shank options, 12 mm cutting length and two teeth (2T), in R1.6 and R3 radius versions; inserts 12 x 12 x 1.5 (R1.6/R3) per the specifications table.

How It Works

The insert knives seat in precision pockets and present ground carbide edges to the workpiece. When an edge dulls, the knife is turned to its second edge or swapped in minutes — the body, its shank and its concentricity stay on the spindle, and the next cut lands at the same dimension.

Applications

  • Roundover edge profiling
  • Cabinet and furniture edge finishing
  • Radius profiles on panels
  • Decorative edge work

Suitable Materials

  • Melamine-faced particleboard
  • MDF and laminated boards
  • Plywood and veneered panels
  • Solid wood

Suitable materials: melamine-faced particleboard, MDF, laminate HPL, veneered plywood, solid hardwood

The insert knife holds the radius profile across long edge runs.

System Comparison: Replaceable Insert vs. Solid Knife

Insert bits keep the steel body in service and replace only the cutting edges. For production routing and panel work, this is usually the lower-cost way to hold edge quality.

Property Replaceable Insert Knife (This Tool) Solid Profile Knife
Edge replacement Swap the worn insert only; the steel body stays in service Regrind or replace the complete tool
Body material 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body, reused across insert changes Whole tool consumed as the edge wears
Downtime per edge change Minutes — index or swap the insert Send out for regrinding or buy a new tool
Profile changes Fit a different insert geometry to the same body New tool required per profile
Edge condition Fresh edge on every change; consistent cut quality Edge quality drifts between regrinds
Best suited for Production cutterheads with repeat profiles One-off profiles and low-volume work

Solid knives remain the better choice for one-off profiles and very low volumes.

Delivery Scope

Single bit. Order by product code with the diameter, shank, cutting length and tooth count stated in the specifications table below.

Why Choose VPOINT

  • One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
  • Custom tooling — diameters, bores, cutting widths and tooth counts built to your drawing or sample.
  • Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration.
  • Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding at a fraction of new-tool cost.
  • Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.

Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.

Precision & Quality Control

Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting diameter (ØD), bore (Ød), cutting width/height (B/H) and overall dimensions are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.

Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.
