Radius Bottom Insert Spiral Router Bit
Radius bottom insert spiral router bit, made to order. Replaceable knives for radius-floor cutting.
The radius bottom insert spiral router bit pairs a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body with replaceable tungsten carbide insert knives. Radius-bottom spiral geometry with replaceable insert knives on a steel body. Diameter, shank, cutting length and radius are matched to the cut when ordering — send a drawing, sample or the old bit as a reference.
The VPOINT Radius Bottom Insert Spiral Router Bit is a spiral router bit with insert knives. Ideal for radius-bottom spiral cutting, bottom cleanup with radius floor and pocket floors with radius.
Design and Construction
The radius bottom insert spiral router bit pairs a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body with replaceable tungsten carbide insert knives. Radius-bottom spiral geometry with replaceable insert knives on a steel body. Diameter, shank, cutting length and radius are matched to the cut when ordering — send a drawing, sample or the old bit as a reference.
How It Works
The insert knives seat in precision pockets and present ground carbide edges to the workpiece. When an edge dulls, the knife is turned to its second edge or swapped in minutes — the body, its shank and its concentricity stay on the spindle, and the next cut lands at the same dimension.
Applications
- Radius-bottom spiral cutting
- Bottom cleanup with radius floor
- Pocket floors with radius
- CNC router work
Suitable Materials
- Melamine-faced particleboard
- MDF and laminated boards
- Plywood and veneered panels
- Solid wood

The radius-bottom insert keeps a consistent floor radius across long runs.
System Comparison: Replaceable Insert vs. Solid Knife
Insert bits keep the steel body in service and replace only the cutting edges. For production routing and panel work, this is usually the lower-cost way to hold edge quality.
| Property | Replaceable Insert Knife (This Tool) | Solid Profile Knife |
|---|---|---|
| Edge replacement | Swap the worn insert only; the steel body stays in service | Regrind or replace the complete tool |
| Body material | 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body, reused across insert changes | Whole tool consumed as the edge wears |
| Downtime per edge change | Minutes — index or swap the insert | Send out for regrinding or buy a new tool |
| Profile changes | Fit a different insert geometry to the same body | New tool required per profile |
| Edge condition | Fresh edge on every change; consistent cut quality | Edge quality drifts between regrinds |
| Best suited for | Production cutterheads with repeat profiles | One-off profiles and low-volume work |
Solid knives remain the better choice for one-off profiles and very low volumes.
Delivery Scope
Single bit. Order by product code with the diameter, shank, cutting length and tooth count stated in the specifications table below.
Why Choose VPOINT
- One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
- Custom tooling — diameters, bores, cutting widths and tooth counts built to your drawing or sample.
- Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration.
- Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding at a fraction of new-tool cost.
- Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.
Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.
Precision & Quality Control
Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting diameter (ØD), bore (Ød), cutting width/height (B/H) and overall dimensions are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.
Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.
Specifications
| Parameter | How to specify |
|---|---|
| Cutting diameter (ØD) | State the cutting diameter, or your machine model |
| Shank diameter | State the shank size (e.g. 6 mm, 1/4”, 12 mm) |
| Insert size | State the insert size, or let us match it to the diameter |
| Radius | State the bottom radius required |
| Flute count | Spiral flute as standard |
| Custom sizes | Send a drawing or sample — built to order |
