Design and Construction

+A carbide brad-point head is brazed onto a spiral HSS shank. The Professional series lists cutting diameters 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 15 mm (10 mm shank, 70 mm overall, 20/27 mm shank length); the Technology series lists 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 mm (10 mm shank, 70 mm overall, 20 mm shank length). Black denotes right-hand clockwise rotation; red/orange denotes left-hand counterclockwise. The series is produced in the Sichuan and Dongguan, China manufacturing bases.

How It Works

+The brad point centres the bit before the carbide edges cut, and the spiral flutes evacuate chips as the bit breaks through the panel. On multi-spindle borers the rotation direction is matched to the spindle so pairs of bits can drill mirrored holes in the same cycle.

Applications

  • Through-hole drilling on multi-spindle boring machines and six-sided drilling machines
  • System holes, dowel holes and through-holes in cabinet panels

Suitable Materials

  • Particleboard, MDF, plywood and solid-wood panels, subject to grade and application review
  • Suitability depends on the specific material grade, machine condition and machining parameters; confirm the application before ordering

Material Comparison: High-Speed Steel (HSS) Tool vs. Solid Carbide Tool

+Typical industry data for reference. Actual results depend on the workpiece grade, machine condition and feed rate.

Property High-Speed Steel (HSS) Tool Solid Carbide Tool
Cutting edge hardness ≈ 60–65 HRC (HSS) 1,500–2,000 HV (solid carbide)
Heat resistance of the edge Loses hardness above ≈ 315 °C Retains hardness up to ≈ 1,000 °C
Edge life on abrasive panels Baseline (1×) 5–10× longer edge life
Feed rate at equal quality Lower Higher
Sharpness retention on MDF / particleboard Dulls quickly Holds the edge through long runs
Regrinding cycles over tool life Limited More regrinds
Cut edge quality as the edge wears More fuzzing and tearout Consistent clean walls
Rigidity in long tools Lower Higher (solid carbide body)
Typical machines Light-duty routers and drills CNC machining centres, multi-spindle borers
Cost per hole / metre of cut Higher over long runs Lower over long runs

Delivery Scope

Select the series, bore diameter and rotation. Black denotes right-hand clockwise; red/orange denotes left-hand counterclockwise in the listed range.

+Each order also includes an inspection record. Send the machine orientation, panel material, required diameter and shank length so the configuration is confirmed before production.

Why Choose VPOINT

+VPOINT supports this carbide tool series with:

  • One-year warranty on every tool
  • Custom diameters, shanks and rotations produced to order
  • Regrinding service to extend tool life
  • Factory direct since 2008, ISO 9001 certified
  • Dual manufacturing bases in Sichuan and Dongguan, China

Precision & Quality Control

+Every through-hole boring bit is inspected before shipment: cutting diameter, shank diameter and tool runout are checked against the specification table at micron level. Production follows an ISO 9001 process with batch traceability, so reorders match the original configuration.

Performance Data

Standard reference values for guidance only — always adjust to machine rigidity, clamping and tool wear, and confirm on the actual workpiece.

Material Typical spindle speed Typical feed Notes
softwood plywood 12,000–16,000 rpm 2–4 m/min Peck when chips pack in deep holes
hardwood 10,000–14,000 rpm 1.5–3 m/min Slow down in dense grain
MDF / particleboard 14,000–18,000 rpm 3–5 m/min Clean entry on laminated faces
solid wood dowel joints 12,000–16,000 rpm 2–4 m/min Match dowel diameter to hole size

Frequently Asked Questions

Which speed should I start with in hardwood?

+Start near 10,000–14,000 rpm and peck when chips pack; the entry tears if you push the feed.

Do I need a pilot or pre-drill with this bit?

+On laminated and dense boards a light pilot keeps the point from wandering; on soft stock it drills straight from the mark.

What feed keeps holes clean?

+A steady moderate feed with clear chip ejection; back off if the entry tears or the flute loads.

Which diameters are covered?

+The Professional series covers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 15 mm; the Technology series covers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 mm, both on 10 mm shanks with 70 mm overall length.

What do the colours mean?

+Black bits rotate right-hand (clockwise); red/orange bits rotate left-hand (counterclockwise). Confirm the required version for the spindle before ordering.

Why a spiral shank?

+The spiral body provides the chip path for through-hole drilling, clearing chips as the bit exits the panel.

What should I send for a quotation?

+The series, bore diameter and rotation, machine orientation and shank length, plus a current-tool photo or dimensioned drawing where available.
